INDIANAPOLIS – Class 4A second-ranked Mooresville got off to an excellent start to the season Nov. 13 at North Central (Indianapolis), outscoring the Panthers 45-14 in the second half on its way to a shocking 69-26 blowout victory.
Six-foot-two senior center Maegan Callaway led the way with 16 points, while senior guards Sierra Chabra and senior forward Bailey Wellspring each added 10. A 25-2 run in the third period helped propel the Pioneers out to a 50-21 lead heading to the fourth after a slow start left the score just 24-12 at halftime.
“I was really impressed with our girls,” said 12th-year Mooresville coach Mark Hurt. “They got the lead early and never gave it up.
“North Central was short-handed. I think our experience showed tonight.”
The Panthers were indeed missing their marquee player, 6’4” sophomore forward Nariah Taylor, due to injury.
Mooresville entered the game seventh in the 4A preseason power ratings at 96.18, while the Panthers came in at 78.52, 39th in 4A.
